What is the difference between an acid and base?

    Acids donate protons (H+) while base accepts protons in reactions. Acids have a pH of 7 while bases have a pH of 7 and above. When acids dissociate in water, they free up H + ions while bases free up - OH. Bases change litmus paper blue while acids turn litmus paper red.
