    1) Lithium + chlorine → Lithium chloride

    2) Li + Cl₂ → LiCl

    Explanation:

    Skeleton equation:

    Li + Cl₂ → LiCl

    Skeleton equation with physical states:

    Li (s) + Cl₂ (g) → LiCl (s)

    Balanced equation:

    2Li (s) + Cl₂ (g) → 2LiCl (s)

    Word equation:

Lithium + chlorine → Lithium chloride

When solid lithium react with gaseous chlorine it form lithium chloride. The oxidation state of lithium is + 1 while that of chlorine is - 1. Thus one atom of lithium and one atom of chlorine are combined to make overall compound neutral and both are in stable state.
