    5.3 g

    Explanation:

    Data Given:

    Sodium acetate CH₃COONa = 13.5 g

    Amount of oxygen = ?

    Solution:

    Molecular weight calculation:

    CH₃COONa = 12 + 1 x 3 + 12 + 16 x 2 + 23

    CH₃COONa = 82 g/mol

    Mass contributed by oxygen = 32 g

    calculate the mole percent composition of oxygen in sodium acetate

    Since the percentage of compound is 100

    So,

    Percent of Oxygen = 32 / 82 x 100

    Percent of Oxygen = 39 %

    it means that for ever gram of sodium acetate there is 0.39 g of oxygen is present.

    So, for 13.5 g the mass of Oxygen well be

    mass of Oxygen = 0.39 x 13.5

    mass of Oxygen = 5.3 g
