Sulphur has atomic number of 16 means it has 16 electrons and 16 protons in its neutral state.

    The electronic configuration is 1s², 2s²2p6,3s²3p4. 2,8,6

That it has 6 electron in the valence shell means it needs two electron to complete it's octet configuration Sulphur reacts with two hydrogen atoms each with 1 electron to form hydrogen compound and to complete its octet structure.

    H (1s¹) + H (1s¹) + S (3p4) = H2S (g)
