When melted down into a liquid state, tungsten has a density of 22.59 g / ml. How many

gallons of liquid tungsten would then be required to make up one ton of the element? (1

kg = 2.205 lb, 1 ton=2000 lb, 1 gal = 2.785 L).

    Explanation:

    1 g = 10⁻³ kg = 10⁻⁶ tones

    so if 1 g are equal to 10⁻⁶ tones

    then 22.59 g are equal to X tones

    X = (22.59 * 10⁻⁶) / 1 = 22.59 * 10⁻⁶ tones

    1 mL = 10⁻³ L

    so the density of liquid tungsten will be 22.59 * 10⁻⁶ tones / 10⁻³ L

    so if we have 22.59 * 10⁻⁶ tones in 10⁻³ L

    then in 1 ton in Y L

    Y = (1 * 10⁻³) / (22.59 * 10⁻⁶) = 44.267 L

    And we know from the problem that 1 gal = 2.785 L

    if 1 gal is equal to 2.785 L

    then Z gal are equal to 44.267 L

    Z = (44.267 * 1) / 2.785 = 17.895 gal
