    Defining law of simple multiple proportions, which states that when two or more elements form more than one compound, the ratio of the weights of one element that combine with a given weight of another element in the different compounds is a ratio of small whole numbers

    Ratio of Fe and Cl in the first sample is:

    Mass of Fe: Mass of Cl

    1.302 : 2.483

    Ratio = 1 : 1.9

    Therefore, in the other sample;

    Mass of Fe: Mass of Cl

    = 1 : 1.9

    = x : 2.329

    x = 2.329 : 1.9

    = 1.221 g.

    1.221g

    Explanation:

    First Sample

    Ratio of Fe and Cl is given as;

    Mass of Fe: Mass of Cl

    1.302g : 2.483g

    Second Sample;

    Mass of Fe: Mass of Cl

    xg : 2.329g

    The ratio between both elements is constant in both samples, so we have;

    Ratio of first sample = Ratio of second sample

    1.302g : 2.483g = xg : 2.329g

    1.302 / 2.483 = x / 2.329

    x = (2.329 * 1.302) / 2.483

    x = 1.221g
