Any system's spontaneity or non-spontaneity depends on the enthalpy change of the system and the entropy change.

If the value of enthalpy change is negative which means that the heat is being evolved, the system is spontaneous and the solute is likely to dissolve in the solvent.

On the other hand, if the value of enthalpy change is positive which means that the heat has to required for the solvation to occur, the system is spontaneous and the solute is likely to dissolve in the solvent. The spontaneity also depends on the entropy change and sometimes overweight the positive enthalpy change and makes the solvation spontaneous.
