What makes an atom larger or smaller

    The more people (electrons on the most outer layer), the closer they get to the nucleon, thus making the radius smaller. An atom gets larger as the number of electronic shells increase; therefore the radius of atoms increases as you go down a certain group in the periodic table of elements.
