    The chemical reactions are catalyzed to increase the overall rate of the reaction.

    When the chemical reaction is an equilibrium (the reaction goes in two ways, from reactants to products and from products to reactants), the net rate is product of the equilibrium of the forward reaction and the reverse reaction.

    The function of the catalyst is to provide an alternate mechanism (pathway) for the overall reaction with a lower activation energy, without modifiyng the net result: neither net equilibrium nor heat.

    Then, as conclusion, the catalyst:

    - Will lower the activation energy of both forward and reverse reactions.

    - Will increase the rate of both forward and reverse reactions.

    - Wil not modify the heat of reaction

    - Will provide an alternative pathway

    - Will not change the net equation.
