What is the difference between a chemical symbol and a chemical formula?

    A chemical symbol are the letters that represent an element. For example, lead's chemical symbol is Pb and iron's chemical symbol is Fe.

    A chemical formula represents a molecule and contains chsnical symbols to show what elements make it up. For example, table salt is a compound and its chemical formula is NaCl because it's made of one atom of sodium and one atom of chlorine.
