The reaction of a metal with magnesium nitrate is a displacement reaction - magnesium gets displaced by a more reactive metal than itself. Therefore, any metal that is more reactive than magnesium will react with magnesium nitrate in solution (when mixed with water). Examples are calcium, strontium, barium, iron etc.
