My brother once built a tool shed entirely out of flattened tomato cans. It stood for two summers. When he was just ten years old, he created a kind of rudimentary moped out of an old bicycle, a lawnmower engine, and gasoline pilfered from my father's VW. It ran, about twenty yards down the sidewalk, but burst into flames before it reached the corner and nearly killed us.
