The use of the rhyming words "bright" and "light" puts a focus on living rather than dying.

The speaker's purpose in this poem is to convince his father to fight death. Any option that makes death desirable or inevitable is not a good option. The last option is also not correct because we don't know until the last stanza that the speaker is talking to his father. The main body of the poem is the speaker listing different types of people who fight death, then he ends telling his father to fight death.
