Why were the igbo difficult for the British to take over?

The reason why it might have been difficult for the British to take over the Igbo group was because of the Igbo people's old, rich and varied culture. Due to the huge difference in Western and African values and traditions, British colonization over the tribe would have been a long and hard struggle.
