In the year 2014, Ireland earned just over 3.5 billion euros from overseas tourists. The number of overseas visitors grew by 9% to 7.3 million, the highest number since 2008, with all of Ireland's four top market areas recording growth. This figure is a 9% increase or almost 300 million euros more, compared to 2013. Domestic demand in the tourism sector also picked up with an estimated 6% increase in spending to 1.5 billion euros, with a further 300 million euros earned from visitors from Northern Ireland.
