Murmansk and Archangel are port cities in northern Russia on arms of the Arctic Ocean. The two cities are less than 500 miles apart, yet Murmansk is ice-free all year long while Archangel is ice-bound most of the year. How can this be explained?

    The simple explanation is that though they are 500 miles apart one is actually closer to the equater than the other meaning it gets warmer
