Why did the US ultimately decide to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

avoiding a land invasion of Japan would save numerous Allied forces lives

the US did not have enough air power to attack Japan successfully

the US thought that using atomic bombs would encourage Germany to surrender more quickly

the US was concerned that they would not get to use the bombs in the future if they did not use them during WW2
