    The correct answer is D.

During this time, there was constant conflict between the British and French in terms of colonial possessions. A perfect example of this was the area around the Ohio River valley.

To establish their claim to this land, France started to build forts on the upper portion of the Ohio River valley. Once this was discovered by the British government, they sent George Washington and his men to confront the French. From there, violence broke out and Washington and his men were defeated by France. This was just the beginning of a war that lasted almost a decade.
