    The US government wanted the land of the Native Americans, and they were not willing to just give it up.

    The US Government wanted to expand the territory and go westward. The Indians felt the land was theirs because they owned it long before the Americans arrived. The Indians felt they were being mistreated and fought for their rights and to keep their territory.
