    The delegates felt that compromise was the major concept that needed to be looked at as a way to keep the country from splitting over slavery. The states, now that the number had more than doubled, needed to find a way to answer the question of how to admit new states and what these states would be allowed to pursue in the way of allowing slavery within their borders.
