    This is a true statement. This could partially be attributed to the more crude forms of warfare that were used during the Civil War. Without the use of air warfare, all the fighting took place on the ground and at sea: this led to larger numbers of casualties on both sides. In addition, with the larger percentage of people from the US being a part of the armed forces, the death rate was necessarily going to be higher during the Civil War.
