When Schism or East-West Schism separated, two branches were created. On the one hand, the Eastern Christian churches led by the Patriarch Michael Cerularius and the Western Church led by Pope Leo IX.

Both leaders did not communicate which made the conflict even more profound. By 1964, they met at Jerusalem and they regained communication.
