Why did the colonists decide to limit the power of the chief executive?

    Because they realized the chief was getting too much power. And in the older days, it was easy to abuse power. the colonists fought for fairness in the government system they had originally. And by limiting the power of the chief it caused everything to be more fair. It didn't let everything be more of a dictatorship.
