Why was ratification by virginia and new york essential for the success of the constitution?

    Although only nine states were needed to ratify the constitution, ratification by Virginia and New York was very vital for the success of the constitution because these two states were both big key states; they were two of the largest, most populous States. Without them, the success of the new government might not have been feasible.
