    - Granted full freedom for more than 3 million slaves in Confederate areas which still conducted rebellion towards the union - Promised that the federal government and military would "recognize and maintain the freedom" in order to protect the status of the former slaves as a free man. - Fail to free around 500,000 slaves in the border states that did not rebelled to the union (Missouri, Delaware, Maryland, andKentucky)

    In the first three paragraphs of the Emancipation Proclamation President Lincoln wanted all slaves freed on January 1st, and that every person who recognize each slave as free. He stated that if any state disagreed and did not free their slaves they would be against the USA. He freed the slaves in every state and asked the slaves not to resort to violence unless they had. a
