    An opponent of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (most likely a Republican/right-wing opponent) would argue that it gave too much power to the President.

    The Gulf of Tonkin resolution gave President Lyndon B. Johnson the power to aid any southern Asian nation where communism had to potential of spreading. LBJ used this to deploy military forces to northern Vietnam, something that would have had to been approved by Congress previously.
