Which act created the first federally funded railroad?

    In 1860, after several years of trying to get a transcontinental railroad funded, the Pacific Railroad Act was proposed. President Abraham Lincoln signed the Act and allowed building to begin. Two separate companies began working of the railroad. They were the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad.
