Dutch Settlements in the New World were extremely prosperous. The Dutch cultivated gold mines in Brazil. They engaged in in fur trading in the Great Lakes region of the United States. They were active in farming in New York and Connecticut and they worked extensively in lumber as well.

The correct answers were B) Lumber and D) fur trading.

The Dutch settlements become prosperous in lumber and fur trade.

The Dutch did not have the idea of permanently settling in the North American territory as was the plan for the British. The Dutch just established some trade ports in the Hudson Bay - what today is Manhattan and New York City - along the Hudson River and had one trade post in Albany, New York. They were very interested in the fur trade to export to Europe.
