    Each of the following are true regarding the political scene in 1860 where republican Abraham Lincoln defeated southern democrat Breckinridge, Douglas and Bell. The election split between northern and southern democrats was symbolic of the severe sectional split and most specially slavery. The competition in states were sectional battled with Douglas and Lincoln dominant in north and Breckinridge and Bell dueling for support in the southern part.
