The correct answer is C) Abraham Lincoln, because it undercut the gains made by the 1860 election.

Abraham Lincoln rejected the final compromise effort to stop secession because it undercut the gains made by the 1860 election.

A big storm was coming to the United States when Abraham Lincoln was elected. As soon as Lincoln was elected President of the United States, seven southern states seceded from the Union. Although the states affirmed that they had the right to separate from the Union, Lincoln did not agree because he considered that secession was against the law and this would generate division between American people. So he tried to do maintain the unity of the states.
