    Shortly after ww2 ended the Soviet's quickly established East Germany as separate "country" from west Germany. A way to stop the influence from the Americans democracy was by building what we know as the Berlin Wall. The differences between the west and East Germany were self evident to show how communism was a threat to the free world. We even began a arms race against the Soviets which we know as the "Cold War"
