The Great Awakening was a spiritual revival during 1730-1760. It allowed people to express more emotion and feel closer to God opposite of the Puritan spirituality which was more serious and melancholy.

    Causes:

    - The Glorious Revolution of 1688 in England marked the end of religious and political fighting. It also established the Church of England as the reigning church of the country. Other religions were put to rest.

    - This lead to the practice of the same religion but it caused for the church to becoming boring. People only attended because it was expected and not because they felt a close connection with God.

    Effects:

    - The Great Awakening acted like a catalyst for the American Revolution. After the colonists came to realize they had the power to control their religion, it made them realize they also had the power to control other aspects of their life.
