The colonists opposed the Stamp Act because the colonists said that being taxed without having their elected legislature is not legal. The stamp taxes were expensive and inconvenient for colonists. The colonists opposed the stamp act because they found it unfair and illegal.

The stamp tax was imposed by the British parliament who was not their elected legislature. The colonists thought that imposing taxes by some other legislatures who are not elected is not lawful and legal.
