The once great Benin City that was located in the southern part of modern day Nigeria impressed all Europeans that have visited it and the Dutch people were not an exception. They were fascinated by almost everything about it, but mostly it was the great walls around it, the highly sophisticated governing and bureaucracy, the planned building of the houses that was in excellent order, the organization, the absence of criminal to that measure that lots of people didn't even had doors.

When comparing it to Holland it was obvious what were the differences, Holland had high criminal rate, corruption was a daily practice, prostitution, thievery, all things that were the total opposite of the ones at Benin City, so no wander they were all fascinated by it.
