The Black Panther Party believed that African Americans should not organize to fight against oppression. the African American community was responsible for solving its own problems. various types of nonviolent protests were the best way to bring about change. African Americans could gain equality by working together with whites.

They took a more aggressive and revolutionary stance to promote civil rights. Their brandishing of weapons, alarmed the FBI who cracked on them. This led to the decline of the Black Panther movement
