Why did rivalry develop between the creoles and the peninsulares over the wars for independence in spanish america

    The peninsulares were those born in the peninsula, i. e. Spain; the creoles were Spanish people born in America. Creoles felt that if they won independence from Spain, they might won also the political power and standing of the peninsulares.
