The correct answer is B) African land was divided without regard to cultural or language groups.

The Berlin Conference in 1884 set ground rules for what would become known as the "Scramble for Africa." During this era, several different European countries were looking to expand into other countries/continents in order to increase the amount of goods/resources they had access to and increase the amount of people they could sell their products to. One of the most popular targets was Africa, due to the continents large amount of valuable resources (like gold). This resulted in European countries carving out different parts of Africa and claiming it as their own. However, the Europeans never considered the cultural, linguistic, or lifestyles of the individuals living on the land that they were taking over.
