    Medieval Europe was a dark era of wars, and attacks which followed the collapse of The roman empire (west) as a result of frequent attacks by teh barbarians and disintegration of military lifestyle of romans in favour of mercenaries. Europe disintegrated as kingdoms rose and fall, state fought against each other and the pope struggled to maintain control through religious authority.
