    Explanation:

Availability and utilization of water is needed to guarantee food production and acceptable hygienic conditions which make possible the settlement and growth of human groups in a particular location instead of a nomadic life. For instance, the building of aqueducts in Ancient Rome allowed that such city grew its population from 675.000 people in 5 B. C. to about 1.4 million in the 2nd Century. Likewise, that city reduced its population considerably after destruction of aqueducts in the 6th Century. Besides, the consolidation of Qin and Han Empires in Ancient China would not be possible without the utilization of water from Yellow and Blue Rivers for rice cultivation.
