    Disagreed on how abolitionism should be dealt with. The Democrats were against abolitionism, meaning they believed in still having African Americans as slave, as properties. While the Republicans, well the Radical Republicans as they were known back then, were totally against the Democrats, they believed in giving full equal and legal rights to African American and abolish slavery
