Personally, the outcome of De Soto's expedition, was that he earned a fortune from Dávila's conquest of Panama and Nicaragua, and by 1530 he was the leading slave trader and one of the richest men in Nicaragua.

Historically, he provided the means for Pizarro's conquest of Peru (he provided him with ships) and he conquered Florida for the Spanish crown. De Soto and his men became the first Europeans to encounter the great Mississippi River and cross it.
