    Dunkirk Evacuation.

Between May 26th and June 4th, the evacuation of 338,226 soldiers took place in Dunkirk, France. British and French soldiers were defeated and surrounded by a German blockade. Trapped and stranded, the soldiers waited to be rescued by an array of small ships and vessels. A small number of civilians were among the crew of these ships, known as the Little Ships of Dunkirk, which ferried the hundreds of soldiers. Nevertheless, most of these boats were piloted by experienced officials.
