Why did Thomas Jefferson want to limit the size of the federal government

    Thomas Jefferson was an idealist who believed that humans could government themselves without a national government.

    Jefferson wanted everyone to live on farms and be well read and to therefore let the people loosely run the country.

    He, however, didn't see the need for a government to ensure that people are educated or safe.
