    The American continental army caped in the valley forge during the winter of 1777-1778 and it is also called as the birthplace of the American Army. Valley forge is around 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia. George Washington chose it for the winter camp because

    British forces had camped g in the Philadelphia and it was easier to keep an eye on them and protect the people of Pennsylvania. It was also a good place to defend the army in case of attack.

    The army was led by three leaders General George Washington, General Friedrich von Steuben and General Marquis de Lafayette, it was under their leader ship in the valley forge that the American army became a trained force. It had to deal with cola and snowy weather and soldiers stayed hungry due to scarcity of food, any soldiers didn't even had proper shoes or blankets.
