During the late 1700s, how did widespread land ownership affect the American people?

    European and Native American views on land ownership were immensely different. Europeans who owned their land put up fences and other demarcations to define their property. Most natives did not believe in private land ownership and saw the land as put in place for everyone's usage. This difference in opinion often caused conflict - especially in areas with nomadic tribes who moved seasonally to follow resources. Areas that used to be open for all were now often "owned" by American settlers.
