Explanation:

The culture is everything in the south. Everybody know that the north and south dont get along and that is because of two very different cultures. In the north they want to all live on top of each other and pass different laws than in the sout. The northern culture is one of making others assimilate, while the south is a culture of allowing others to assimilat. For example often in the north they want the south to push the same laws they have up in the north. The south doesn't generally go around saying things like that.

Specifically for the Civil war a key difference was livelihood. The north was mechanized and insutrial, while the south was plantaiontal. The north didn't have slaves and the south did. The northerners wanted not only to make the south do what they did (which is the reason why war happened, states rights, not slavery). One part of that was slavery, even though it wasn't the main issue.
