    Now look at the U. S. It is true that the U. S. Is made up of land conquered from Native Americans, and it is true that the U. S. Owns Puerto Rico, but neither of these things make the U. S. And empire.

    America's imperialistic tendencies make it into an empire. America has conquered land in the pacific, near Canada, and in the Caribbean. Not only has the United States extended it's reach into distant lands, but the US has also declared areas as protectorate states.

    This extended grasp of land outside the continental US, makes it into an empire, much like the British empire.
