What caused the desire to return to normalcy in American society was a set of events after the World War I, such as the repercussion of the war itself, the economic stagnation, the Palmer Raids, the shortcoming of the Presidency of Woodrow Wilson and also the failure on re-validating the League of Nations.

Thus, the thought of war was tainting the minds of the American people and they wanted to return to the way of life before the war; so the presidential candidate Warren G. Harding ran a campaign promising a better sense of normalcy.
