What did the global demand for sugar impact the people of Africa?

    In short: Europe wanted sugar. Sugar was grown in the Americas. Sugar requires labor. Labor is expensive. Slaves are cheap labor.

    So, Africa was robbed of its population and that population was sent to the Americas to die harvesting sugar.
