How did the Industrial Revolution affect the United States? The South developed a manufacturing economy, while the North remained dependent upon agriculture. The North developed a manufacturing economy, while the South remained dependent upon agriculture. It affected both regions equally, as manufacturing began to take over the economies of both the North and the South.
